My undergrad work includes a bachelor in math and urban studies, and a teaching certification in math (7-12th grade). My last and current semester will be spent student teaching geometry at Austin High School. My goal is to teach high school math in the Austin and San Antonio area.
I'm originally from Pasadena, Texas, a suburb on the southeast side of Houston. I moved to Austin for my undergrad four years ago and I've been here since then. If I could move and work anywhere, I would probably go to a city with reliable transportation and a mild climate.
In addition to pursuing a career in teaching, I'm also interested in the state of education in the U.S. (particularly in bordering states), the (de)funding of public schools, the effects of standardized testing, and building a community with healthy public schools (hence, my second major in urban studies). I want to create a learning environment that allows students to use math in order to analyze current events affecting people worldwide ranging from climate change to immigration. I want students to be mathematically competent in order to understand important issues.
This website includes lesson plans, my teaching philosophy, my resumé, and some outside information on what educators in the Austin area are doing-- including myself.
